The problem
Deployments took the site down, and visitors far from the server waited for images, scripts and stylesheets.
What I did
- Moved static files and media to Amazon S3.
- Put CloudFront in front as a CDN, so files are served from a location near each visitor.
- Automated deployments with CodeDeploy.
The result
Site downtime fell by 20%, and pages load faster for visitors around the world.
