Mobile apps

Cross-platform mobile apps built with React Native and Expo.

I build mobile apps with Expo and React Native. One codebase runs on both iOS and Android, so you build, test and fix once, and every fix reaches both platforms at the same time.

I publish my own apps on Google Play: MapShot, a GPS camera that stamps photos with the place and time, and Threadline, a path puzzle game. For clients I have built a shopping app with Expo on top of a Magento back end.

What I can help with

  • iOS and Android apps. From one React Native codebase, using native features such as the camera, location and notifications.
  • Shopping apps for your store. Connected to Magento through GraphQL, or to Shopify, so the app and the website share products, prices and orders.
  • Back ends and APIs. When the app needs its own server, database or admin panel.
  • Store publishing. App Store and Google Play listings, builds, review, and the privacy pages both stores require.
  • Updates after launch. Over-the-air updates for quick fixes, and new versions as iOS and Android change.

Questions

Is a React Native app as good as a native one?

For most business apps, yes: the interface uses native components and users cannot tell the difference. Games with heavy 3D graphics, or apps built around one platform’s newest features, can be better served by native code, and I will say so if yours is one of them.

Who owns the app?

You do: the code, the store accounts and the listings are yours.
